Letters: Reader comments on textile collection story

Many volunteer organizations collecting and putting those materials to use

To the Expositor:

In response to the article 鈥淭extile recycling will soon be a reality on 澳门三肖三码, thanks to new bins.鈥

I can鈥檛 claim to be knowledgeable about the amount of textiles that are currently being discarded in 澳门三肖三码 landfills, but after following the articles in The Expositor about the textile drop box program, I鈥檇 like to remind everyone that textile recycling programs already exist right here on the Island.

Local service groups have generally always accepted donated textiles, which are sorted by volunteers, and sometimes employees (your neighbours) to be sold at local thrift stores. These sales are frequented by a large number of Islanders who have come to depend upon the availability of affordable clothing, bedding, shoes, etc. The rags are sold to local garages and other businesses and overflow sent to charities such as the Canadian Diabetes Foundation. Local proceeds from the sales of these locally-donated items are put back into local programs. I don鈥檛 think it can get any better than that!

Please read News from Knox from December 22, 2021 on The 澳门三肖三码 Expositor鈥檚 website, manitoulin.com, for more insight and please think twice about how far your spring cleaning needs to travel.

Sincerely
Susan Hart
